In STANIEL CAY, Nick Finneran tells the story of how, as a teenager in post-World War II 1948, he and his cousin Tony leave the cold Massachusetts winters behind to begin a life's journey. Along the way Nick and Tony do a lot of fishing, meet colorful characters from the pre-tourist days of Miami, and discover a wrecked sailboat in the mangroves, which they rebuild and sail to the Bahamas. The teenagers experience the tranquil life in the Caribbean before the tourist boom, but soon uncover a plot that could prove to be the opening salvo of the cold war! The boys are incredulous to find themselves in a life and death struggle for survival. CLICK here to see what readers are saying about STANIEL CAY. |

More sailing, adventure and intrigue in the Caribbean with Nick Finneran! "With his trademark vivid yet matter-of-fact imagery, troubadour tales of big fish, island girls, bad monkeys, and the Italian Pirates of the Caribbean, Finneran has once again set the standard for nautical nerd fiction." Nick Finneran’s CAY SAL BANK is the sequel to STANIEL CAY. Young Nick and his cousin Tony are cruising in their sailboat and enjoying the lazy days in the Caribbean in the years 1949-1950. Nick opens a fishing charter business, finds a girlfriend and writes a biography of his famous uncle, the 17th century Neapolitan pirate Captain Benozzo Di Napoli. Life is good. But alas, Nick and Tony’s Caribbean tranquility is once again disrupted by the Soviet Navy. Ten years before the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Russians are supporting the Cuban Communists, and the Finneran boys are drawn into the fray.
